Fees and pricing
What it costs, stated in full.
What does it cost to sell?
2.5% of the sale price. That is the whole seller fee on a free account. Essentials drops it to 2%, Growth to 1.5%.
Sell a £100 card and you keep £97.50.
What do buyers pay?
A 5% buyer fee on the item, plus 30p per seller order. The 5% is already inside the price you see on the listing, so the number on the card is the number you pay for it. The 30p is added once at checkout and itemised there.
That 30p is charged once per seller, not once per card. Ten cards from the same seller is one 30p. Three different sellers in one basket is three.
Why do buyers pay a fee at all?
Because we would rather charge a small fee openly than build it into every listing price and pretend the marketplace is free. Sellers price their cards, we charge for running the place, and you can see exactly what each part costs.
Are there any other fees?
No listing fees. No monthly fee unless you choose a paid tier. No fee for messaging, offers, watchlists or your collection.
Is there a minimum fee?
No. There used to be one and it was removed: the 30p per seller order replaced it. If you see a minimum fee mentioned anywhere on the site, that page is out of date and we would like to know.
What do the paid tiers cost?
Essentials is £6.99 a month, or £69.90 a year which works out at £5.83 a month. It lowers your seller fee to 2%.
Growth is £19.99 a month. It is not on general sale yet and you can join the waitlist.
When does a paid tier pay for itself?
Essentials saves you 0.5% on every sale, so it breaks even at around £1,400 of sales a month. Below that, stay free. We would rather tell you that than take the £6.99.
Can I list a card for £5.50?
Yes. Prices go to the penny, with a minimum of £1.00. Type 5.50 and the listing is £5.50.
Buying
Paying, offers, baskets and what turns up.
How do I pay?
Card payment through Stripe. We never see or store your card details.
Can I make an offer?
Yes, on most listings. The seller can accept, decline or counter. An offer and its counters can run to 5 hops in total, which is usually several more than anyone needs. Each offer expires after 48 hours if nobody responds.
Is there a minimum order?
No.
Can I buy from more than one seller at once?
Yes. Your basket can hold cards from several sellers. Each seller posts their own cards separately, so you may get more than one parcel, and each seller order carries its own 30p.
What condition will the card be in?
Whatever the seller has stated. Every listing carries a condition and photographs. Read both. If a card arrives materially worse than described, that is a dispute and we will back you.
Do you sell mystery packs or repacks?
No. Mystery packs, repacks and resealed product are not allowed on TheGemMint. If you spot anything that looks like one, report it and we will take it down.
Selling
Getting set up, and pricing a card properly.
How do I start selling?
Create an account, connect a Stripe account so you can be paid, then list. Stripe handles the identity check, not us.
Why do I need to connect Stripe?
Because that is how the money reaches you, and because it keeps card details and bank details out of our hands entirely. It takes a few minutes and you only do it once.
How do I price a card?
Where we have the data, card pages show what the card has sold for on eBay UK, built from UK sold listings only. Each price carries the number of sales behind it and a confidence grade from A to D. An A means plenty of recent sales. A D means we are working with very little and you should use your own judgement.
Not every card has enough UK sales to price yet. Where one doesn't, it shows its cheapest live listing on TheGemMint, or else its Cardmarket (EU) price in pounds with the euros beside it, labelled as such, or else says it has no UK sales yet. We never show a US price.
Graded prices are kept separate from raw ones and never blended. ACE prices come from eBay UK sold listings. ACE population and gem-rate data are not available: the population data we can source covers PSA, BGS, CGC and SGC.
Can I list in bulk?
Not yet. A bulk lister is being built and it is the next significant thing we are adding for sellers.
What can I not sell?
Mystery packs, repacks and resealed product. Anything counterfeit or reproduction not clearly described as such. Anything you do not physically have in hand.
Getting paid
Where the money goes, and what comes out of it.
When do I get my money?
Your share of a sale reaches your Stripe balance when the buyer pays, and is paid out to your bank when the order completes, 14 days after delivery, or sooner if the buyer confirms receipt. Until then the buyer can still report a problem, and a refund decided in their favour is taken back out of that balance. Once it is paid out, Stripe's standard bank timing decides when it arrives. An order with an open dispute does not complete until the dispute is resolved.
What is taken out?
Your tier rate on the item: Free 2.5%, Essentials 2%, Growth 1.5%. The buyer fee is entirely separate and never comes out of your side.
Two other things can come out, and only if you choose them. If you post an item yourself instead of using our label, the stamp is yours to pay and the untracked rate the buyer pays may not cover it. And if you ask us to collect from your door rather than dropping off, that costs £0.30 per parcel. Neither is charged unless you pick it.
Is my payout ever reduced by the buyer's fee?
No. The two are separate by design. Sell a £100 card and you keep £97.50. What the buyer pays on top does not touch your payout.
Delivery
Who buys the label, what it costs, and how it is tracked.
Who arranges postage?
We do, on tracked orders. TheGemMint buys the postage label and charges the buyer a flat national rate, the same price to Brighton, Inverness and Belfast. Sellers don't set a postage price, and on a tracked order they pay nothing towards it. Two exceptions, both the seller's own choice. A listing marked “Sent without tracking”: no label is bought, the buyer pays a flat £1.65 untracked rate, the seller posts it themselves, and a stamp costing more than that rate comes out of their payout. And doorstep collection instead of drop-off, which costs the seller £0.30 per parcel. The one postage decision a seller makes is the order value above which they waive it: a free-postage threshold, set once and applied to their whole shop.
Is postage tracked?
Almost always. Both postage speeds we buy are Royal Mail Tracked services, and they are the only kind on our carrier account. The one exception is a listing marked “Sent without tracking”: a card priced at £10 or less that the seller posts themselves by Royal Mail second class, keeping a proof of posting receipt. You see that notice under the price before you buy, and you have the same 14 days from delivery to report a problem as on a tracked order. Tracking is what lets us close an order on a delivery event instead of on a promise, which is why untracked is limited to cards at that price.
Do you provide labels?
Yes. We buy the label when the order is paid for and put it on the order page, with the tracking number. You print it, or have your postie bring it if you'd rather not print. Choose how you send parcels in Account settings.
How do I confirm something arrived?
You can mark an order as received from your orders page.
How long does the seller have to post?
Post promptly and add tracking where you have it. Repeatedly slow or silent sellers get restricted.
When something goes wrong
Most of it resolves in a message. The rest we decide on evidence.
The card did not arrive.
Message the seller first, most of these resolve in a sentence. If that goes nowhere, open a dispute from the order and we will look at it.
The card is not as described.
Photograph it as it arrived, including the packaging, before you do anything else. Then message the seller. If you cannot agree, open a dispute.
How long do I have to raise a problem?
14 days from delivery, which is when the order completes. Raise it before then. Confirming receipt completes the order sooner and closes the window with it. Afterwards the order is closed and we can no longer recover the money from the seller for you, so your remaining route is your card issuer.
How are disputes decided?
On the evidence. Listing photographs, the condition stated, the messages between you, tracking, and photographs of what arrived. Which is why the photographs matter so much on both sides.
Someone is behaving badly.
Report the listing or the user. You can also block someone, which stops messages in both directions and is invisible to them.
Can I get a refund?
Yes, through the dispute process or by agreement with the seller.
Trust and safety
What we do, and plainly what we do not.
Do you authenticate cards?
No. We do not grade, authenticate or physically inspect anything. Every card is described by its seller, and the condition on the listing is the seller's word, backed by their photographs and their reputation.
What we do instead is keep out the categories where fraud actually lives. No mystery packs, no repacks, no resealed product.
How do I know a seller is genuine?
Look at their reviews, how long they have been here and how they have described their other cards. Message them. A seller who answers questions clearly is usually a seller worth buying from.
Is my data safe?
We never see your card or bank details, they go straight to Stripe. We do not sell your data. You can have your account and your data deleted, see below.
Do I have to be 18?
Yes. TheGemMint is 18+ only.
Account, founders and points
Founder numbers, Gem Points and closing your account.
What is a founding member?
One of the first 1,000 people to join. Founders get a permanent numbered badge from #001 to #1,000, 0% seller fee on their first £2,000 of sales, and one month of Essentials free.
Is my founder number permanent?
Yes. Your number stays yours, including if you unsubscribe from emails.
What are Gem Points?
A rewards system that earns you points as you use the marketplace. Redemption is not switched on yet. Points are accruing and you will be able to spend them.
What are vendor levels?
A seller progression that recognises consistent, well-reviewed selling.
Can I delete my account?
Yes. Go to Close my account at the bottom of Account settings. It tells you first if anything has to finish, such as an open order or a payout on its way, and then closes your account when you confirm with your password. If you can't sign in, email support@thegemmint.co.uk from your registered address.
